• Do I have to install the Brooks B17 saddle?

  Yes, a new leather saddle feels firm at first. After a few hundred kilometers, the leather adapts to your body. After that, the saddle becomes increasingly comfortable. So give it time to settle in.

• How do I maintain a leather saddle?

  Treat the leather a few times a year with a leather lubricant, such as Brooks Proofide. This keeps the leather supple and protects it from moisture. Apply the lubricant to the top and bottom of the deck and let it soak in well.

• Can I ride in the rain with a leather saddle?

  A little rain can be fine for leather, especially if you maintain it properly. However, don't let it get wet. Therefore, use a saddle cover if you leave your bike outside. If the saddle gets wet anyway, let it dry slowly, not on the heater.

• For which cycling position is the B17 suitable?

  The B17 fits best with a sitting position of about 60 degrees. That is a slightly forward-leaning position, like on a trekking bike, touring bike or gravel bike. If you sit completely upright, a wider saddle with springs often fits better.

• What is the difference between the Brooks B17 and the B17 Softened?

  Both saddles have the same shape and size. The B17 Softened has pre-treated, softer leather. This means you don't have to ride it for as long. The regular B17 has tougher leather and therefore requires a little more patience. After you have ridden it, it adapts perfectly to you.
